Surrey Association for Visual Impairment. Making a visible difference in Surrey.
Firstly, you need to understand what we are and what we do, so I would invite you to go to our page on About SAVI, then you can find out what our charity does and how we got where we are today. If you like us and would be interested in working for us, you have two possibilities. You may be interested in Volunteering and be an unpaid but very valuable member of our staff. If you look at Volunteer Support page, you will see all that is available there and how to apply.
If you would like to join our staff in paid job, please read on to see what vacancies we have on offer at this time.
We are seeking a qualified Rehabilitation Worker to join our well-established centrally based team of specialists. We are a caring team committed to working with visually impaired people to promote independence, well-being and choice. The work will include assessment, registration, teaching mobility, independent living and communication skills throughout Surrey. There are opportunities for joint working and professional development. Applicants should have a R.W. or equivalent qualification.
Closing date: Friday 1 August 2008.
The candidate would provide administrative support for the Rehabilitation and Children’s Services Teams within SAVI. They will work as part of a team to provide general support e.g. data inputting, photocopying, typing and printing documents, provide telephone information and referral service to people with a visual impairment, including people who have a combined sight and hearing loss, carers and other professionals. In addition, they will assist with the processing of referrals and registrations and provide back-up telephone support for Reception. Applicants should have good Office skills and experience of producing letters, forms, certificates and statistics.
We seek a confident and enthusiastic person to develop a continuous benefits review programme for vision-impaired people in Surrey. Candidates will need well-developed inter-personal skills; prior knowledge of benefits is not required, but applicants must be prepared to undertake some basic training and be prepared to develop the role to support vulnerable people with a wide range of information on entitlements. Experience of working with elderly people would be an advantage. You should be able to manage records and produce statistical information, so good computer skills are vital, i.e. Word, Excel and Access. Working with SAVI volunteers you will provide advice and signposting on all benefits issues and monitor outcomes. The role will also call for general assistance to the community services team from time to time.
We are looking for caring, enthusiastic helpers to work closely with our Children’s Recreation Coordinator on a sessional basis. Candidates would provide support at sports and leisure events, as required - typically 4-6 hours on a weekend or in the evenings, each month, but this will vary. You should be used to working with children, be a good communicator and keen to participate in activities such as theatre trips, ice-skating and climbing. Experience of working with vision impaired people or children would be an advantage, but not essential.
Would you like to support a group of blind and partially sighted people in your locality? Do you enjoy working with people and are good at organising? Could you facilitate a group of people being taught a variety of communication skills?
The role of Facilitator includes preparing the venue, providing sighted assistance, working with volunteers and linking with SAVI, but mainly ensuring that members can practice their skills in an enabling and supportive environment. Training will be provided.
Outreach Workers assist people with a vision impairment to continue to live in their own homes through the provision of information, support and advice to both themselves and their carers, e.g. about local services, benefit entitlements, assistance with correspondence and the delivery of some specialist items of equipment. Candidates should preferably live locally and develop a local contact/knowledge database to assist SAVI staff and volunteers and keep accurate records.
