Training to professionals

You may feel that your organisation is very supportive of disabled people and has a good understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act, but despite all the good intentions, staff may not have the practical skills and knowledge about how to support a visually impaired person or someone with combined sight and hearing loss. This could be at any place of work where there are front line staff working with the public, supporting customers or residents, such as in a shop, or care home.

SAVI is able to provide you with a training package that will meet your staffs needs.
Modules include:

Understanding how different types of sight loss affects individuals.
Experiencing some challenges that visually impaired people may face during day to day living.
How to improve communication with a person with sight loss.
How to make written information accessible to visually impaired people
How to make your environment more accessible and safer for visually impaired people.
How to safely guide a visually impaired person in busy or unfamiliar environments.

The length of the courses are negotiable and range from one hour seminar to a whole day.

If you believe that you would enhance your staffs skills and awareness with this type of training, contact Stella Black at SAVI either on her e-mail sblack@sa-vi.org.uk or ring tel. no. 01372 377 701 ext 237
