Who's been helping SAVI?

Every gift, large or small, is greatly appricated and makes a difference. Thank you to everyone who has supported SAVI. Here are just some of the donations that are helping SAVI to make a visible difference in Surrey.

Pizza Express logoSAVI is grateful to Pizza Express, Reigate, for their support in providing venue and pizza on Wednesday 24th March for our annual Quiz Night.  Over 60 people enjoyed the quiz which raised over a £1000 pounds for the charity.  The quiz masters from Horley Lions Club ensured that fun and laughter along with brain teasing questions were very much the order of the evening.

SCC decorating team at SAVIEmployees from Surrey County Council (SCC) swapped pens for paintbrushes in order to bring a dash of colour to the training room of the Surrey Association for Visual Impairment (SAVI). SAVI’s training room in Fetcham plays a vital role in helping healthcare professionals get up to speed with the latest developments on increasing awareness about the needs of people throughout the county who are blind or visually impaired. Staff from SCC’s mid-Surrey area office chose to give up their valuable time to create a more professional and welcoming environment for people attending SAVI training courses.

Darren OutrimDarren Outrim from SAVI’s mobile phone operator Quore Ltd, has generously donated ten wireless internet connections – Dongles – for two years! This is worth nearly four thousand pounds!
The wireless connection to the internet will provide a huge boost to the ICT training that SAVI will be able to offer its visually impaired clients.
With the help of these connections, clients will be able to practice their computing skills and navigation of the internet. This will, in turn, lead to greater independence, reduce social isolation and increase confidence. The ability to shop on line is something that we all take for granted but it becomes even more important when transport and mobility become the problem that they are for visually impaired people. It also means that they can stay in touch and communicate with friends and relatives through email and have access to information and news.

garden7On Sunday 19th July Mr & Mrs Barnett and their neighbours in Merrow Lane Burpham opened their gardens once again to help raise £1,400 for Surrey Association for Visual Impairment.  All of the gardens have their own unique features and everyone works so hard to get them up to scratch for over 200 visitors who came along to enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of summer.
