Macular Degeneration is the most common eye condition that affects people over 65 years in the UK. It is not know exactly what causes MD yet, and currently there is no known cure, although medical science is working on this all the time.

MD happens when a layer of the retina starts to work less effectively as it ages. There are two types of MD. Dry MD, which is most common and Wet MD, the less common but currently the type that has more possibility of treatment to prevent it getting worse.

You may not notice any change in your sight at first and you may first become aware of it when objects change shape, size or colour and appear to move or disappear. You may get blurry vision and lines may become distorted or a dark spot may appear in the centre of your vision.

You need to act quickly and visit your optician as quickly as possible to get professional advice on what is happening if you get any of this happening to you.
